New research shows the impact of Dutch investment in global health and SRHR

What has Dutch investment in global health and sexual and reproductive health and rights achieved in recent years? A new research report provides an important evidence base for answering that question.

The research was conducted by Charlie Nederpelt, independent consultant at Amphi – Public Health Informatics, and commissioned by the Dutch Global Health Alliance and the SRHR Platform.

Currently, there is no unified impact evaluation and reporting system across the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ global health and SRHR portfolio. This research therefore systematically studied outputs, results and outcomes across the portfolio, with the aim of informing public and political debate, as well as future evaluations.

The conclusions are clear: Dutch investments in global health and SRHR have produced significant impact. They contributed to health and wellbeing, sexual and reproductive rights, stronger health systems, civil society capacity, labour productivity, and health security across the globe.

At a time when global aid budgets are under pressure and future allocations to global health and SRHR are being discussed, these findings are highly relevant. They show that Dutch contributions have made a measurable difference and provide an evidence base for continued and well-targeted investment.

The accompanying carousel highlights several key results from Dutch investment between 2020 and 2024, including outcomes related to lives saved, infections treated, safe deliveries, unintended pregnancies prevented, health systems strengthened, and economic returns for the Netherlands.
